HOCHTIEF delivers complex projects in the marine environment ranging in value from £15m to £1bn. Supported by the international expertise of our Technical Competence Centre in Germany, our marine work in the UK includes static and lifting bridges, viaducts and wharf refurbishment.
Working over water brings unique challenges in terms of health and safety, logistics and environmental risk. We use innovative construction methods and careful phasing to overcome obstacles such as difficult weather and tidal conditions. Our extensive knowledge of marine construction enables us to develop the best methodologies for each scheme and we are experienced in using specialist construction methods and equipment, including cofferdams, water-borne plant and machinery, and barges and boats, to facilitate safe construction over water and solve logistical issues.
Working in the marine environment often means working in Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), environmental protection zones and sensitive ecological environments. We maximise our use of offsite prefabrication to minimise time spent over water and reduce the risk to the marine environment and we work hard to eliminate the risk of pollution and ensure water quality.
We work collaboratively with our clients and specialist supply chain to build schemes that we can all be proud of, and that leave a legacy of economic improvement for the surrounding area.
