As one of the world’s leading building and infrastructure construction groups, ours acts on its responsibility toward society and the environment. HOCHTIEF features in the internationally renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Index (World, Europe) and is also included in the RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook 2018 in recognition of its commitment to operating sustainably.
With an Environmental Management System certified to both ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 50001:2011, sustainability is a core focus of HOCHTIEF. In line with our Sustainable Society Policy, we work hard to minimise our environmental impact, use resources efficiently and leave a positive legacy for both our clients and the communities in which we work.
We are committed to ensuring that we work with suppliers, partners and clients who also recognise their responsibility to the people they employ, the communities they affect, and their local and global environment and we work in partnership with the Supply Chain Sustainability School towards achieving this.
We work with social enterprises and offer education and training opportunities both to local people and underprivileged groups. We also seek to support local communities through various initiatives, including litter picking, volunteering, charity events and carrying out refurbishment and repair works on community facilities.
Our focus on sustainability has led us to win four Green Apple Awards, several Network Rail Sustainability Awards, for both our contribution to biodiversity and working with the community, a Crossrail Greenline Award for Environmental Engagement and various CEEQUAL awards, including CEEQUAL Outstanding for our work on Crossrail C310 Thames Tunnel.
